About CSRF
The mission of The Construction Sciences Research Foundation (CSRF) is to conduct research, develop programs, including educational programs, and to create or enhance tools to improve construction industry communication. Revenue CSRF receives from subscriptions to CSRF programs, such as SPECTEXT®, SPECTEXT® II and CSRF OUTLINE Specification, beyond that necessary for maintenance of the programs, is invested in programs in keeping with CSRF's CONCOM® Charter. |

Among the programs funded and developed by CSRF are:
Development of the MasterFormat Division 1 concept and the required Division 1 Sections for specification documents. Completion in 1971 of an education research project titled Future Curricula of Educational Institutions Relative to the Sciences of Construction, which was one of the bases of current CSI education programs. Funding in 1978 of a research project conducted by the University of Wisconsin questioning why various construction information and retrieval systems were not utilized more extensively throughout the industry. Completion in 1979 of a $50,000 research project conducted by the Kellogg Corporation regarding projected problems and trends in the construction industry through 1990, with findings turned over to CSI without cost for continued review by CSI's Planning Committee.
Other programs developed by CSRF include:
SPECTEXT® ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SPECIFICATIONS, Including Water, Wastewater and other Sanitary Specifications, full-length SPECTEXT® Sections designed for use in preparing specifications for water, wastewater and other sanitary projects.
The SPECTEXT® Glossary and Speller, programs designed to ensure uniform product terminology in specifications, on the drawings and in estimates; and EDITSPEC® Section-Editing Tools, a collection of tools designed to simplify, standardize and expedite repetitive specification editing processes for specification writers using SPECTEXT® and SPECTEXT® II specifications and Microsoft® Word and Corel® WordPerfect® word processing software.
