David Ruby, PE, SE, SECB, FASCE, is Chairman and Founding Principal of Ruby+Associates, Inc. He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural Option) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY.  His extensive experience spans over 50 years and covers all aspects of structural design and construction engineering. He is registered in 37 states and has completed projects in Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America. 

Mr. Ruby is recognized as a pioneer of constructability.  Through Ruby+Associates, Inc., he serves the steel construction industry by providing erection and stability analysis, value engineered solutions and constructability reviews for prominent projects across the globe.  His clients include owners, construction managers/contractors, fabricators/erectors, and architectural firms.

He has lectured at Wayne State University, Lawrence Technological University, Purdue University, University of Michigan, AISC NASCC, NCSEA, Central Fabricators Association and Structural Engineer’s Institute.  Mr. Ruby regularly publishes articles in Modern Steel Construction and Structure. Currently, he is authoring an AISC Design Guide on Constructability.

Mr. Ruby received the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers & American Council of Consulting Engineers-MI 1998 Outstanding Individual Engineer in Private Practice and the 2004 CASE Past Chairman’s Award for outstanding contributions to the structural engineering profession and the community.  He has served in leadership roles with the American Institute of Steel Construction, American Society of Civil Engineers, Council of American Structural Engineers, Structural Engineers Association of Michigan, National Council of Structural Engineers Associations and Lawrence Technological University. He currently serves on the Civil Engineering Advisory Board at Lawrence Technological University and the AISC Code of Standard Practice Committee.
