SPECTEXT®99 Subscribers Ask:

CSRF Newsletters

A SPECTEXT®99 subscriber asks: How can I get my SPECTEXT®99 toolbar to appear every time I start Microsoft7 Word Office 97?

SPECTEXT®99 is shipped with the SPECTEXT.DOT template which includes a toolbar containing various macros that enable subscribers who use Word Office 97 to edit the formatting of SPECTEXT®99 sections more easily. To ensure that the SPECTEXT® toolbar appears each time you start Word Office 97, subscribers may copy the SPECTEXT.DOT template to the Startup directory located in their Word program files on their C: drive.

To locate this directory on your system, start Microsoft Word Office 97. Select Tools, Options, File Locations from the Standard toolbar. The Options dialog box will appear. Note the Startup listed under File Types in the Options dialog box. The path of the Startup directory is listed in the same dialog box under File Locations. The path may be something similar to c:\msoffice\office\startup, depending on the setup of your system. Once you have identified the proper location of your Startup directory for Microsoft Word Office 97 you are ready to copy the SPECTEXT.DOT template to the Startup directory using Windows Explorer.

To copy the SPECTEXT.DOT template from your SPECTEXT®99 CD-ROM to your Startup Directory using Microsoft® Windows Explorer:
  1. Close Microsoft Word Office 97.
  2. Select Start, Programs, Windows Explorer to start the Windows Explorer program.
  3. Select your CD-ROM drive (d:\) to access the directories on your SPECTEXT®99 CD-ROM.
  4. Select the Word 97 directory.
  5. Select the Macros directory.
  6. Locate the one file in that directory called spectext.dot and click on the file name once to select the file.
  7. Select Edit and Copy from the Windows Explorer Standard toolbar.
  8. Locate the msoffice\office\startup directory on your C: drive.
  9. Highlight the Startup directory file name.
  10. Select Edit and Paste from the Windows Explorer Standard toolbar. The file will now copy from your SPECTEXT®99 CD-ROM to your Word Office 97 Startup directory.
  11. Exit out of Windows Explorer.
  12. Select Start, Programs, Microsoft Word Office 97 to start the Word 97 program. You should see the SPECTEXT® toolbar at the top of your screen at the right side of your normal Word toolbars. You may also activate this toolbar by selecting View and Toolbars from the Word 97 Standard toolbar and selecting the SPECTEXT® toolbar from the list of available toolbars.

Subscribers may obtain more information on copying files and the Startup directory by consulting their Microsoft Word Office 97 User's Manual and Help Index as well as their Windows Explorer Help Index.
