CSRF Introduces SPECTEXT® Trenchless Construction Specifications

Baltimore, MD - The Construction Sciences Research Foundation, Inc. (CSRF) announced the expansion of the SPECTEXT® Master Guide Specification Library by the addition of new specifications on state-of-the-art trenchless construction techniques.

New SPECTEXT® horizontal directional drilling and microtunneling specifications offer engineers, contractors, sewer and water districts, and public authorities more efficient, safer and cost effective alternatives to traditional trenching and tunneling methods.

Horizontal directional drilling, pipejacking and microtunneling technology provides more productive installation methods with several distinct advantages. Underground pipe repair, replacement and renovation, conduit installation, and sewer installation and renovation are some of the construction situations in which these technologies will provide increased efficiency, safety, environmental and financial benefits.

Advantages of utilizing trenchless construction techniques include
  • worker safety,
  • increased productivity,
  • ability to work in a wide range of ground conditions as well as below the water table line,
  • ability to work in environmentally sensitive or socially, commercially or industrially congested areas,
  • reduced soil haul away and disposal,
  • reduced operational disruption for existing structures, highways, railroads, and
  • reduced street cutting, patching and repaving.
CSRF is a not-for-profit construction research foundation, founded by the Construction Specifications Institute in 1967 to solve construction information communications problems in the A/E/C industry.

CSRF publishes EDITSPEC® Section-Editing Tools and the SPECTEXT®, SPECTEXT® II, OUTLINE Master Guide Specification Libraries for architectural, structural, site, civil, environmental, mechanical and electrical construction projects covering CSI MasterFormat™ Divisions 1 - 16. The next edition is scheduled for publication in January, 2003.
